Crypto lets your customers pay from a crypto wallet, while you're paid in randZAR The ISO 4217 code for the South African rand, and the currency every amount on this site is in unless a page says otherwise. Amounts are decimal rand rather than cents, so 100.00 is one hundred rand..

You never hold or handle cryptocurrency. The payment is converted to rand at the point of payment, so what reaches your account is an ordinary rand amount and you carry no exposure to crypto price movements.

Ozow's crypto payments are powered by MoneyBadger. For you, it behaves like any other Ozow payment method; it appears on the Ozow payment page once it's enabled, and it settles the way your other payments do.

How your customer pays

  1. Your customer chooses to pay with crypto at checkout.
  2. They choose their crypto wallet or exchange app.
  3. They confirm the payment in their app.
  4. The amount is converted to rand and the payment is confirmed.
  5. Your customer returns to your site.

Supported wallets and exchanges include Bitcoin Lightning wallets, Luno, VALR and Binance. Bitcoin is supported, including over the Lightning Network, alongside major exchange-supported tokens.

Enabling crypto

Speak to your account manager to have crypto enabled on your account.

Once it's enabled, crypto appears on the Ozow payment page automatically. There's no separate integration and nothing to build; it works through the Ozow integration you already have.

Your customer needs a supported wallet or exchange. Someone holding crypto somewhere unsupported can't pay you this way. It's an additional option for customers who already hold crypto, not a replacement for your other payment methods.

Settlement works the same as your other payments. Crypto payments are settled to you along with everything else. See Settlements.
