PayShap RequestPayShap Request The request side of PayShap. Rather than the payer pushing money, the payee asks for it: the payer receives a request and approves it in their own banking app, and the funds move once they do. Enabled by Ozow on request rather than by default.payshap.co.za is built on PayShapPayShap South Africa's rapid payments service, run by the banks. Low-value payments clear in seconds, and the recipient can be identified by a ShapID instead of by an account number.payshap.co.za, South Africa's real-time bank-to-bank payment rail. Your customer pays using just their mobile number or bank account number, and approves the payment request directly in their banking app. Because it's a real-time payment, you get payment confirmation faster and can fulfil orders sooner.
You can offer it as an accelerated payment option at checkout, alongside Pay by Bank.

Standalone button. A standalone PayShap Request button isn't available by default. If you want one, contact Ozow support or your account manager to discuss your options. PayShap icons are in Brand assets.
Confirming payment. Ozow confirms the outcome to your business through your integration. Only fulfil an order once you've received a confirmed successful status. See Statuses.
Testing
We recommend testing with small live payments in production. Production payments settle back to you as normal, so it's safe to test this way. If you need staging credentials, contact Ozow support or your account manager.
Refunds, settlement and reconciliation
- Refunds: you can refund a PayShap payment. That's your decision, not something the customer can force through their bank. See Refunds.
- Settlement: PayShap Request payments typically settle the next day, like Pay by Bank. See Settlements.
- Ozow Portal: transactions and statuses update in real time on the Ozow Portal.
Things to know
The payment is real time, but settlement isn't. Your customer's payment and the confirmation to you happen in real time. The funds settle to you typically the next day.
Your customer's bank may charge a fee. A bank fee of R3.50 may apply. It's charged by the customer's bank, not by Ozow.
Limits are set by the bank. Transaction limits depend on the customer's bank and its PayShap limits. Ozow applies these during the payment journey.
Your customer must return to the payment window. After accepting the request in their banking app, the customer comes back to the Ozow page to complete the payment.
